new on Pilot Edge

Post by Anders S »

Hello All.
I am new on PilotEdge,
have been flying many many years on Vatsim.
looking forward to fly here, but im not comfortable without having a radio list.
I fly with FS9 and Fsnavigator. I like mostly IFR flight.
is there any restrictions based on aircraft types?

wondering also to fly the "first flight" on pilot edge on the webside. L52- KSFB

I have Navigraph but I dont find any charts in there for those airports? why is that?

did try to connect and obtain ATIS information for KSFB at L52, but I got nothing when changing freq. anyway to obtain it on another way?

any hint and useful info you have to me?

hope to be up in the skies soon .

Anders,

A 'radio list' is not something which exists in real life. It's there purely because VATSIM doesn't have a realistic radio system, requiring you to know who is online and see which frequencies are currently available. In the real world, pilots dial the published clearance, ground, tower, approach, enroute and CTAF frequencies.

There are no restrictions regarding aircraft type.

If you don't feel comfortable with a VFR flight, feel free to go IFR instead. The pilot training program here: http://training.pilotedge.net has some good IFR flights if you'd like some suggestions.

KSFB is not the correct airport identifier...it should be KSBP.

All the charts you need can be found through skyvector.com. There is no airport diagram for L52 since it's non-towered, but it's a simple airport. Check out the satellite imagery and you'll see.

You can get ATIS from myflightroute.com if you like, otherwise you can use the ATIS in the sim. Be advised that runway information in the simulator-generated ATIS may not be accurate.

thanks for the fast answer.
will try to fly a IFR flight tomorrow in the Beechcraft 58, maybe the learjet 45 but unsure on that. and see if I do all correct.
maybe between the focus fields.

I can file the flightplan in the pilot edge squawkbox correct?

if I do a mistake controllers are telling me I guess, but I will try to be good prepared on charts +++ considering also buying me a new headset since that I have isnt too good.

Use the Baron. You're going to be doing more freq changes than you've ever done on a flight before. The Baron will give you some extra time.

"Squawkbox" is a product that was developed for VATSIM. Use the PilotEdge application if you're using FSX/P3D. Yes, you can file flight plans from that application.

Yes, controllers will point out mistakes. If you're unsure of the flow of operations for a flight, the I-1 would be a better place to start. However, if you generally know what you're doing, then feel free to do your own flights outside of the training program.

Flying on PilotEdge isn't any harder than real life, but it isn't any really any easier, either. If there is mandatory routing between two airports, that's the routing you're going to get if you're IFR. Use flightaware.com or peware.pilotedge.net to find out what routes people have been getting between city pairs, or you can look up preferred routes on myflightroute.com.

Also- coming from VATSIM, there tends to be many misunderstandings on how certain operations are conducted and the more important "why" behind these procedures.
Coupled with the training program Keith suggested, I think the free video workshops he hosted. I suggest working from
The last video up- http://www.pilotedge.net/workshops

thanks for all the replies and sorry for all Questions. I just want to get it up and running as soon as possible you see :)
I am also on FSeconomy and just bought a C172 in KCLT to fly with, my first flight tomorrow will be from KCLT- KONT
I see its a non towered airport in KCLT, and I should use 122.900 for annoncing movement before takeoff. but I just wonder, it says this in skyvectors:

CTAF: 122.900
ATIS at NJK (19.7 SW): 269.275
AWOS-1 at L08 (40.9 W): 126.575 760-767-3308
ASOS at TRM (43.7 NW): 118.325 760-399-8054
Remarks:

APCH/DEP SERVICE PRVDD BY LOS ANGELES ARTCC ON FREQS 128.6/291.7 (LAGUNA RCAG).
---------------------------

does this means I should change to Departure right after takeoff on 128.60 ? then follow instructions and get my IFR clearance or should I ask for Clearance before Taking off?

Buddy... You really are going to want to use the flight training program that Keith Suggested and the workshops. These questions are all answered there and brings you up from basics to advanced topics such as departing IFR from an uncontrolled field.

To quickly answer your question, you are going to want to file IFR and pick the clearance up on 128.6 (while on the groundiof able) prior to departing.
