Dear all,
I'm Marcos from Spain (N101ML when flying). I joined PE a week ago, with some fear due my spoken English language limitations (English is a bit hard to me, but American English is still harder).
I completed the CAT-5 yesterday and I'm so happy. Just to say thanks to the most ATC's and pilots for their patience with me, with my "say again please" , my "eeehhh's" (while my brain is trying to translate from Spanish to English and vicecersa) and my, sometimes, slowness in radio transmitions.
Finally to say that I'm encouraged, and I hope to do it better during this year, or maybe years, that I will be with you.
Best wishes,
Marcos Lemos.
Just to say thanks.

Re: Just to say thanks.
Welcome Marcos and congrats on the CAT 5! I also did the 5 yesteraday, now on to the CAT 6.
Coming from Germany, I also sometimes have problems finding the right words (despite ATC phraseology being pretty standardized in most situations) or understanding fast speakers. Many years of learning Englisch and reading english websites, forums etc. doesn't prepare too well for actually talking to native speakers, especially in a fast and efficient way when flying online.

Re: Just to say thanks.
You are both doing great. Keep at it.
Marcos, here is a trick that even English speaking students use:
If you are the one that is initiating contact:
-wait and thinks about all that needs to be said (position, intentions, weather confirmation, etc...)
-if you need, write it down so you can read straight from there.
When you are responding to ATC:
- write down only the important information on a paper next to you (headings, altitude, instructions, squawk codes, etc...)
- read back only the important/required information:
--important= headings, altitude, instructions, squawk codes, etc...)
--required= holdshort instructions, runway assignments, confirmation of radar services (some facilities must confinue to provide radar services to aircraft that were told the that their services were terminated but never read that back to ATC so the ATC facility must continue to provide services to them until they can confirm that the pilot understood the radar services are now terminated)
I may have missed some things. I'm sorry but heading out the door now
