My First Air Transport Flight!!

Post by signmanbob »

This is a real milestone for me. My first air transport flight was completed today. Using the IXEG 733,everything went almost perfect, except right at the end of my arrival, starting the approach, for some reason, I lost my darn comms. I seen I was still connected to PE, so I squawked 7600 and completed the most beautiful "squeeker" landing on Rwy 25L of Las Vegas that has ever been done without witnesses (you just got to take my word for it ;) ).
It might have been beginner's luck, but I was amazed at how easy and smoothly the whole flight went. I descended via the KEPEC3 arrival and it brought me down to the perfect speed and altitude for the approach and landing.
I just had a lot of fun, really enjoyable.
Thank you to all of the great controllers and all of Pilotedge. What a great playground! :D

Jorge was a good teacher that day. I'm glad I got to watch him go through that and talk to him afterward.
With my flight, I felt that since I had been told to "expect" the Rwy 25L visual approach, I would just squawk 7600 and proceed to land. Conditions were visual, so I could see that no one was using the runway. I thought it would be safer that way, than doing a go-around and flying around with no comms.
I was able to get my comms working again after I landed.

Thank you Kyle! That makes me feel good :)

I just finished my 2nd transport flight as a new Southwest pilot, on the IXEG 733.
Most of the flight went really well and was uneventful.
Problems that I had was:

1. I was told to depart and climb via the SID to FL320. Toward the completion of the SHEAD9 departure from KLAS, I was still concentrating on hitting the altitudes after MDDOG exactly as shown on the SID, not thinking that SHEAD is FL140 or above which FL320 IS above and would have worked fine. So I should have gone ahead and climbed to FL320 after leaving MDDOG. I didn't do that and it was brought to my attention...... :|
2. I let the altitudes get away from me a little on the DYAMD3 arrival, and came to the approach a little high to start the ILS. The controller pointed this out and had me do a left turn to hdg 100 and decend to 4000, which when I turned my hdg dial to 100, the aircraft started turning right...WOAHA! :o I had to bring the dial back quickly, which turned the zig, to a zag and the controller politely inquired as to what I might be doing. After explaining what happened, we continued as was directed.

Once again the landing was absolutely beautiful and I don't think my passengers even realized they were on the ground 8-)

Pole: Things that are more exciting than flying a transport plane on PilotEdge?

A) Jumping out of an aircraft without a parachute from 10,000 ft to hit a 12 ft. net spread out a few feet above the ground.
B) Climbing Mt. Everest without a guide after reading the book "Climbing Mt. Everest, For Dummys".
C) Racing at 250mph on a Kawasaki Ninja, through the winding roads of Kentucky's Appalachia.
D) None of the above

Correct Answer: None of the above :D
