[April 27 5pm PDT] Santa Barbara Shutdown

Join us for the next PE event, the Santa Barbara Shutdown on Fri Apr 27. Call for clearance no earlier than 5pm PDT and try to make your way out of SBA during the first 30-45 minutes of the event.

Reminder: do not start calling for clearances and taxi prior to the event start with the hopes of being wheels up right at 5pm....we will be staffing up the sectors in the 5-10 minutes leading to the start of the event. Calling early is not helpful in that case.

Pistons, head from SBA to SNA. Jets should fly SBA-SAN. Turboprops have the choice of SNA or SAN as their destination, or perhaps fly to both!

Ramp space at the airline terminal is sparse at SBA! Consider coordinating gate usage on the PE Discord and make sure you have collisions turned off!

A couple of people have asked on Discord/Facebook if it's ok to fly VFR in this event.

There is no such thing as an IFR-only event on PE. We post the mandatory IFR routing for those who are going to be flying IFR, not to imply that everyone must fly IFR.

The goal events is to concentrate and shape a flow of traffic while staffing appropriately for that level of traffic. Whether people fly VFR or IFR doesn't really have an bearing on that goal.

Thanks for coming out, everyone! Looks like there were a little bit over 50 ppl online, which wasn't bad for a Friday night and with late notice!

SNA got the bulk of the traffic which was a surprise. People really enjoyed flying GA for this event, which was neat to see. It required some creative separation having 120, 160 and 200kt aircraft on the same route with the same altitude, but it wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed with some altitude changes and shortcuts. That was fun on the ATC side!

We managed to get some of the SBA and NTD resources moved over to Socal just in time before SNA and SAN got busy. Thanks to the controllers for making the time on a Friday night and rocking it, as usual!
