I had a fun one which resulted in not flying at all. The plan was to fly to a family Thanksgiving about 190 miles away. Flying would have been significantly shorter and more fun than the 4 hour drive. The weather wasn't great, mostly because it was pretty windy, but not out of the question windy (I thought).
We get to the airport, get everything ready. Grab a briefing. Taxi out, run up. Looking great. Check the AWOS once more. The wind has jumped up 10-15 knots, with higher gusts and an unforecast cloud layer is moving in really quickly. Well. Crap. That just took the day from breezy to well out of my comfort range. So, we taxied back and put everything away and drove 4 hours.
Turns out the wind everywhere was significantly higher than forecast. The cloud layer didn't last long, but still a better choice overall to not fly.
