With my understanding I get. Take off Rwy 30 climb to 400 AGL. Left turn to heading 260. Easy.WHITEMAN (WHP)
ORIG 94034 (FAA)
TAKEOFF MINIMUMS: Rwys 12, 30, 2900-2 or std. with
a min. climb of 350' per NM to 4300.
DEPARTURE PROCEDURE: Rwy 12, climbing right turn
direct VNY VOR/DME. Rwy 30, climbing left turn
heading 260°. All aircraft climb to 4500 via VNY R-
325, then climbing left turn direct VNY VOR/DME
As I'm flying a BE58/A continue on heading 260 until intercepting the VNY325R radial and turn left to fly the 325 radial to VNY.
Since a direction for the the hold isn't specified, a right hand holds starting at VNY is assumed. So the holding racetrack starts when passing over VNY. Continue to climb in hold until 4500 feet.
I'm confused about the final instruction.
What exactly does this mean?then climbing left turn direct VNY VOR/DME
Follow on questions. When I fly this ODP I usually climb above 4500 feet while on the initial inbound VNY325R segment. Which would mean that I don't need any additional loops in order to climb higher. So am I free to continue on the filed route after crossing VNY?
Or.....am I supposed to climb to 4500. And upon reaching 4500 regardless where you are, turn left direct VNY?
Follow on question. When flying a holding pattern to gain altitude when does one leave the pattern? When at the holding fix or when the altitude is reached? I suspect that the hold is exited at the fix.
I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Thanks for any/all feedback.
