N number registrations

Post by Jim Parish »

Just was told on PE that the N number generated by MyFlightRoute was invalid (N7A). Just checking, but that is not an invalid registration. The real number is on a Cessna 170A in Pennsylvania.

So, to clarify, there is no prohibition on a single digit FAA registration - correct?

Hi Jim,

Per the FAA site: http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificate ... g_nnumber/
The N number N7A would be legal.

Registration numbers N1 through N99 [without trailing terminal letters] are strictly reserved for FAA internal use.

My employer would be surprised to learn that they have invalid registrations on their airships. Controller misunderstanding I assume.

Yup N7A is a legal callsign, I'll follow up with the controllers on this one.

Out of wondering, you don't happen to know a Mr. Bayliss over there in the blimp world do you?

I haven't had the pleasure to make his acquaintance. I believe he is flying out of west coast operations in Gardina where they still have a blimp (as opposed to the new airships).
